Questions Canadians actually ask

Is it legal to install my own solar system in Alberta?
It depends where you live — and we tell you straight. Truly portable, plug-connected gear needs no permits. Anything permanently wired to a building needs an electrical permit. In many rural jurisdictions an owner living in their own home (or a farm building on single-phase service) can pull a homeowner electrical permit and legally do the work themselves, passing a safety codes inspection. Calgary and Edmonton require a licensed electrical contractor for solar PV work, on-grid or off. Grid-tie always adds the micro-generation application to your utility. One call to your local permit office settles it — we include a checklist with every kit.
Will solar actually work in a Canadian winter?
Yes — panels love cold. Alberta gets some of the best sun in Canada (Calgary averages roughly 4.5 peak sun hours a day across the year). Winter days produce less, which is why our off-grid kits include real battery capacity and our estimates use honest year-round averages, not summer peaks.
Do your kits really include everything?
If it needs a wire, the wire is in the box: panels, charge controller or inverter, battery where listed, racking, MC4 connectors, fuses, disconnects and a plain-language install guide. No surprise parts runs to the city.
Do you ship, or do I pick up?
Both. Free local pickup in Calgary — panels and batteries are heavy, so pickup saves real money. Palletized freight estimates: $199 anywhere in Alberta, $349 to BC/SK/MB, $499 to ON/QC, $649 to the Maritimes, $799 to Newfoundland; territories by custom quote. Exact freight is confirmed with you before anything is charged.
What if I buy the wrong size?
Use the instant quote tool, or send us the quote form and a real person will size it with you before you spend a dollar. Unopened kits have a 30-day return window.
