The 2024 Calgary Stampede has closed with an all-time attendance record of 1.35 million visitors, surpassing the previous high set in 2012 and delivering an estimated $590 million in economic activity to the Calgary region.

By the Numbers

Organizers reported strong attendance across all 10 days, with three single-day records broken during the run. The rodeo sold out seven of 10 performances, and the new Innovation Pavilion attracted over 180,000 visitors.

“This was a Stampede for the history books,” said CEO Joel Cowley. “Calgarians showed up, visitors came from around the world, and we delivered an experience that I think everyone can be proud of.”

Tourism Impact

Tourism Calgary reported that hotel occupancy rates averaged 96% during the Stampede, with room rates up 22% over the same period last year. Restaurants, bars, and retail establishments along the Stampede corridor reported their strongest sales in years.

New Additions

The 2024 edition featured several additions, including an expanded Elbow River Camp with Indigenous cultural programming, a new agricultural technology showcase, and a dedicated family zone with reduced-price attractions.

The Stampede’s economic impact extends well beyond the gates. Supply chain analysis shows that the event supports approximately 8,500 seasonal jobs and generates business for over 2,000 local suppliers and vendors.

“The Stampede isn’t just an event — it’s an economic engine for the entire region,” said Calgary Chamber of Commerce president Deborah Chicken-Chief.

Planning for the 2025 Stampede is already underway, with organizers promising “significant new experiences” to build on the record-setting year.
