Calgary's running community delivered a stunning display of endurance and generosity this past weekend as the Servus Calgary Marathon wrapped up with record-breaking numbers and nearly three-quarters of a million dollars raised for charitable causes across the province.

The weekend marathon finale saw 20,000 participants lace up their running shoes, supported by 1,600 dedicated volunteers and thousands of Calgarians cheering from the sidelines. The full 42.2-kilometre marathon and 21.1-kilometre half-marathon both finished at Enmax Park in Stampede Park on Sunday morning, starting from 11th Avenue at 6:45 a.m.

"It's phenomenal to see everyone out there running their own race," said Calgary Marathon Society vice-chair Meredith Conrod, who herself competed in the half-marathon event. "There's people trying to run their very first half-marathon or full marathon today, and then I even met a gentleman at Expo this weekend who's been running this for 57 years."

A Celebration of Perseverance

The $700,000 raised represents a significant boost for Alberta charities, with runners fundraising for causes ranging from pediatric cancer research to community health initiatives. The event showcased the breadth of Calgary's athletic spirit—from first-time racers testing their limits to seasoned veterans who've made the marathon an annual tradition for nearly six decades.

Among this year's standout performances, Michelle Spencer of Guelph, Ontario, claimed the top female master title with an impressive finish time of 2 hours, 48 minutes, and 40 seconds.

The record-breaking turnout reflects Calgary's growing reputation as a hub for community-driven sporting events that blend athletic achievement with meaningful charitable impact.
