A sophisticated drug trafficking operation spanning multiple provinces has resulted in significant charges for two Edmonton residents after authorities seized $800,000 worth of methamphetamine, firearms, and counterfeit currency.
John Corbett, 43, and Jesse Wynia, 43, both of Edmonton, are facing 24 criminal charges following an extensive investigation by Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) that began with intelligence about drug transportation from Manitoba.
The investigation culminated on April 9, 2025, when RCMP officers near Wainwright conducted a traffic stop based on information that the vehicle's occupant had collected a drug shipment in Winnipeg with plans to transport the substances to Edmonton.
Extensive Search Operations
Following the traffic stop, ALERT's Edmonton organized crime team executed search warrants at two residential properties in Edmonton. The searches yielded substantial evidence of drug trafficking operations, including the large quantity of methamphetamine valued at $800,000, along with firearms and counterfeit cash.
The multi-province investigation demonstrates the collaborative efforts between Alberta and Manitoba law enforcement agencies to combat interprovincial drug trafficking networks that often use major highways to transport illegal substances.
Serious Criminal Charges
On March 19, 2025, ALERT officers arrested both suspects. The extensive list of charges includes conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime, drug trafficking, firearms trafficking, and additional firearms-related offences.
Both Corbett and Wynia have been released from custody pending their court appearance, which is scheduled for April 14.
