A fatal motorcycle accident has left the community north of Calgary reeling after a collision between two vehicles claimed the life of a 51-year-old rider Friday afternoon.
Airdrie RCMP responded to the scene around 3:50 p.m. at the intersection of Symons Valley Road and Big Hill Springs Road in Rocky View County, approximately 25 kilometres north of Calgary. The woman was riding northbound on Symons Valley Road when her motorcycle struck a passenger vehicle that was turning south from westbound Big Hill Springs Road.
The rider was pronounced dead at the scene. The 39-year-old driver of the car sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital for treatment. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
Investigation Underway
Mounties say the circumstances of the crash remain under active investigation as they work to determine the exact factors that led to the collision. Investigators typically examine vehicle speeds, road conditions, visibility, and driver actions in such incidents.
Motorcycle accidents can result in severe injuries or fatalities due to the limited protection riders have compared to enclosed vehicles. Those travelling on Alberta roadways are reminded to remain vigilant at intersections and maintain safe speeds, particularly in areas where sight lines may be compromised.
