The Edmonton Oilers' playoff hopes came to a crushing end Sunday night in Anaheim, falling 4-3 in overtime to the Ducks in a Game 4 decision that will haunt the franchise for months to come.

What started as a promising performance—with the Oilers jumping out to an early 2-0 lead on goals from Artemi Panarin and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins—unravelled as Anaheim stormed back with two power-play goals in the second period to tie the game heading into the third.

The teams traded chances throughout the final frame, exchanging goals to send the contest into sudden-death overtime. That's where the season effectively ended: a seemingly innocent pass deflected off defenceman Darnell Nurse and skittered just barely over the goal line, giving the Ducks the series-clinching victory.

A Goalie's Valiant Effort Falls Short

Tristan Jarry put forth a resilient performance between the pipes, stopping all 13 shots in the opening period and making several high-quality saves throughout the contest. The starter made critical stops on Anaheim's power plays and kept the Oilers within striking distance, but even his best efforts couldn't overcome the team's defensive miscue in overtime.

Connor McDavid, who appeared to reaggravate an ankle injury during the game, recorded two assists but couldn't generate the late-game magic his team desperately needed.

Season Ends on the Road

The loss marks a disappointing conclusion to Edmonton's playoff run, sending the team home with their season finished earlier than hoped. The controversial nature of the overtime winner—and questions about whether the puck truly crossed the goal line—will only add to the sting of the elimination.

For a franchise with championship aspirations and elite talent on the roster, this early exit represents a significant setback. The Oilers will spend the offseason analyzing what went wrong, particularly in crucial moments when their season hung in the balance.
