The Edmonton Oilers showcased championship-calibre resilience Thursday night, overcoming a relentless Vegas Golden Knights attack with a perfect penalty kill performance before Evan Bouchard delivered the overtime winner in a thrilling 4-3 victory at Rogers Place.

Bouchard's power-play blast at 2:47 of overtime capped off a masterful defensive display that saw Edmonton kill all six Vegas power plays, including a crucial five-on-three disadvantage late in the third period that could have decided the game.

"That's what playoff hockey looks like right there," said Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch following the dramatic win. "Our penalty kill was absolutely outstanding tonight. The guys blocked shots, Stuart Skinner made some huge saves, and when we got our chance in overtime, Bouch delivered."

The Golden Knights entered the night with the league's third-ranked power play at 28.4 per cent, making Edmonton's perfect penalty kill performance all the more impressive. Vegas generated 14 shots on their six man advantages but couldn't solve Skinner, who finished with 31 saves on 34 shots.

Leon Draisaitl opened the scoring for Edmonton midway through the first period, capitalizing on a turnover behind the Vegas net. The Golden Knights responded quickly with goals from Jack Eichel and Jonathan Marchessault to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.

Connor McDavid tied the game at 2-2 early in the second period with his 47th goal of the season, a highlight-reel effort that saw him dance around two defenders before beating Vegas goaltender Logan Thompson five-hole. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins gave Edmonton a 3-2 lead later in the period, redirecting a Bouchard point shot past Thompson.

Vegas pressed hard in the final frame, outshooting Edmonton 15-8 and finally breaking through when William Karlsson scored with 4:23 remaining to force overtime. The goal came during a scramble in front of Skinner's net after the Oilers failed to clear a rebound.

The overtime period was dominated by special teams, with both clubs trading power-play opportunities. Edmonton's man advantage unit, which ranks second in the NHL at 29.1 per cent, finally capitalized when Bouchard unleashed a one-timer from the point that found the top corner past a screened Thompson.

"I knew I had a clean look when I saw the puck coming across," Bouchard said post-game. "Leon made a perfect pass and I just tried to get it on net. When you see it hit the back of the net in overtime like that, there's no better feeling."

The victory moves Edmonton within two points of the Pacific Division lead and maintains their momentum as they push toward the playoffs. With 14 games remaining in the regular season, the Oilers continue to position themselves as legitimate Stanley Cup contenders.

Vegas, despite the loss, remains firmly entrenched in a playoff position but will rue the missed opportunities on the power play. The Golden Knights had multiple Grade-A chances during their man advantages but couldn't convert against an inspired Edmonton penalty kill unit.

The Oilers return to action Saturday night when they host the Colorado Avalanche in what promises to be another crucial Pacific Division matchup. Vegas continues their Alberta road trip with a visit to Calgary on Sunday to face the Flames.
