A devastating shooting at a school in Thailand has left six people dead and 15 others injured, marking the second such attack in the country this year.
The incident occurred Friday at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in the Bang Kruai district, located north of Bangkok. Three teachers and three students were killed in the attack, according to police statements. Two of the injured remain in critical condition.
Authorities identified the gunman as a student at the school. Police said he fired 26 rounds during the assault before taking his own life. An additional 34 rounds of ammunition were discovered at the scene.
"Then it started getting more frequent, like 'bang, bang, bang' and then it went quiet at one point," an 18-year-old student witness told Reuters. "And the shooting started again."
The student described initially mistaking the gunfire for firecrackers before realizing the severity of the situation.
Second School Shooting in Thailand This Year
The attack represents an alarming trend in Thailand. In February, another school shooting occurred in the southern Hat Yai district, where one teacher was killed and a student was injured.
Parents rushed to the school Friday to collect their children following the incident. The attack has renewed concerns about school safety and access to firearms in the country.
