The Calgary Flames continued their remarkable post-trade deadline surge Saturday night, dismantling the Vancouver Canucks 7-3 at the Saddledome to extend their point streak to six games.

Few predicted the Flames would become one of the NHL's hottest teams after dealing away key veterans MacKenzie Weegar and Nazem Kadri at the deadline, but Calgary has posted an impressive 7-4-1 record since the trades, collecting 11 of 12 possible points during their current homestand.

The veteran acquisitions have proven instrumental in the turnaround. Defenceman Olli Maatta tallied a goal and assist Saturday, giving him 10 points in just 12 games as a Flame — a stark contrast to his single assist in 22 games with Utah earlier this season.

Forward Ryan Strome, who was relegated to 13th forward duties in Anaheim, contributed two points and now has three goals and nine points as a Flame, matching his entire 33-game output with the Ducks.

The offensive explosion has coincided with breakout performances from franchise cornerstones. Matt Coronato registered a goal and two assists Saturday, part of a five-game point streak that has him tied with Matvei Gridin for the team's hottest scorers.

Morgan Frost also collected three points in the victory, while captain Mikael Backlund and several teammates have contributed to the most sustained offensive production Calgary has enjoyed all season.

Rookie Zayne Parekh added his first multi-point NHL game with a power-play goal, giving him two goals in his last three contests.

However, the Flames' unexpected success presents a curious dilemma for fans hoping for a high draft pick. The recent surge has lifted Calgary from second-last in the NHL standings to fourth-last, potentially costing valuable lottery positioning.

The team now sits three points ahead of Chicago and the New York Rangers, though they remain three points behind St. Louis, Florida and San Jose in the race for the bottom.

Calgary's resilience faces its sternest test beginning Monday in Denver, where they open a challenging six-game road trip through Colorado, Vegas, Anaheim, Dallas, Denver again, and Seattle.

While still longshots at seven points back of the second wild-card spot, the Flames have given their faithful something to cheer about during what was expected to be a rebuilding season.
