An armed confrontation at an Edmonton residence has ended in tragedy, with Alberta's police oversight body now investigating the circumstances surrounding an officer-involved shooting that claimed a man's life Sunday morning.
Edmonton Police Service officers responded to a west Edmonton home near Donsdale Drive and 45th Avenue after receiving reports that a man had entered the residence armed with a firearm and shot a woman and infant inside. The incident is being treated as domestic violence-related, with police confirming that all parties involved knew each other.
When officers arrived at the scene, they were met by witnesses and the injured parties, and immediately established containment of the residence, according to EPS. The situation escalated when the 36-year-old suspect opened the front door while armed.
