The federal government is pouring $9.3 million into Alberta's defence and manufacturing sector, recognizing the province's critical role in Canada's national security strategy.
The investment, announced in Calgary this week, will support six Alberta businesses developing everything from advanced drone services to Arctic monitoring technology. The funding flows through the Regional Development Investment Initiative, a three-year federal program designed to match Canada's long-term military capabilities with strategic regional investments.
"The global security environment is rapidly evolving, and Canada must be prepared to defend our sovereignty and stand strong with our allies," said Corey Hogan, Calgary-Confederation MP and parliamentary secretary for the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources.
Hogan made the announcement on behalf of Minister Eleanor Olszewski, who oversees Prairies Economic Development Canada (PrairiesCan), the agency delivering the funds.
