RCMP officers have executed search warrants at the homes of former Calgary mayor Jyoti Gondek and current Ward 10 councillor Andre Chabot as part of what sources describe as a corruption investigation.

Gondek, who served as Calgary's mayor from 2021 to 2025, confirmed that officers searched her residence and seized her mobile phone. The former mayor said she has been fully cooperative with authorities while expressing concerns about the invasive nature of the search.

"I've been fully cooperative and respect the legal process. At the same time, this has been very invasive, and my lawyer and I will be reviewing it closely to ensure it was justified,"

Gondek stated in response to the search.

Councillor Chabot told reporters Tuesday that he was "completely surprised" when RCMP officers arrived at his home Thursday with a search warrant. The Ward 10 representative said he has no knowledge of what the investigation involves but willingly handed over his electronic devices to assist with evidence gathering.

"I have no idea what the investigation is about. I do know that I was asked to provide my devices for them to gather evidence. That's about as much as I know,"

Chabot explained to media.

The councillor emphasized that he was not questioned by police and does not believe he is under investigation personally. He added that he would have gladly provided his phones if officers had simply asked, calling the situation "a bit of a distraction" while maintaining his full cooperation.

Defence lawyer Alain Hepner has been retained to represent Chabot and confirmed his client "has nothing to hide" and is cooperating fully with authorities.

Current Calgary Mayor Jeromy Farkas acknowledged awareness of the situation but declined further comment, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation and its potential legal implications. Farkas confirmed he has not been contacted by police.

The Calgary Police Service confirmed it received a complaint in October 2025 that was subsequently referred to the RCMP for investigation.

The searches represent a significant development in what appears to be an active investigation involving Calgary's municipal government, though details about the specific nature of the alleged corruption remain unclear.
