An unprovoked stabbing at one of Alberta's busiest shopping destinations has RCMP officers stepping up patrols and urging the public to remain vigilant.

Airdrie RCMP responded to reports of a stabbing in the CrossIron Mills mall parking lot Monday evening, where a victim was attacked during what appeared to be a routine transaction with the suspect.

Assault Leaves Victim with Serious Injuries

According to initial police findings, the victim sustained a chest wound during the encounter near the Toys "R" Us entrance, close to Entrance 4. The injury was serious enough to warrant emergency medical attention, with paramedics transporting the victim to a Calgary-area hospital.

The suspect fled the scene before RCMP arrived, escaping in a black SUV. Police cleared the parking lot area around 11 p.m. but have launched an active investigation into the incident.

Police Search for Fleeing Suspect

RCMP has not released detailed suspect information, but investigators are treating the case as a priority. The brazen daylight assault in a public shopping area has raised concerns about safety at the popular retail hub, which attracts thousands of visitors daily.

Anyone with information about the stabbing or the suspect vehicle is urged to contact Airdrie RCMP at their non-emergency line or Crime Stoppers for anonymous tips. Witnesses in the parking lot area at the time of the incident are encouraged to come forward.

The incident serves as a reminder for shoppers to remain aware of their surroundings, especially in busy parking areas where visibility and foot traffic can vary significantly.
