A 42-year-old woman has died following a residential house fire in the village of Clyde, north of Edmonton, authorities confirmed Tuesday.

Westlock RCMP responded to the emergency call just before 9 p.m. Monday night. When officers arrived at the scene, heavy smoke was already billowing from the residence.

"When RCMP members arrived on scene, there was already heavy smoke. RCMP did contain the scene, while fire crews put out the fire," said Alberta RCMP Cpl. Teri-Ann Bakker.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her manner of death remains under determination by a provincial medical examiner, pending further investigation.

Fire investigators working alongside Westlock RCMP have ruled out arson as a contributing factor, according to Bakker. However, the exact cause of the fire remains under active investigation.

Authorities have not yet released the victim's identity. The investigation is ongoing as officials work to determine how the fire started and what circumstances led to the fatal outcome.

Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact Westlock RCMP.
