A Calgary man is facing serious criminal charges after a catastrophic vehicle collision last summer that claimed the life of a pedestrian and left two others fighting for their lives.
Calgary police charged Rami Hamdan, 26, on Tuesday with one count of criminal dangerous driving causing death and two counts of criminal dangerous driving causing bodily harm. The charges stem from the July 21, 2025 crash on 52nd Street N.E. that shocked the community and raised fresh concerns about dangerous driving in the city.
The Collision
According to police, Hamdan was operating a pickup truck that was travelling the wrong way down northbound lanes when it struck a female pedestrian in her 50s. The impact was devastating. The pickup truck continued its trajectory southbound, colliding with an SUV carrying a woman in her 30s and a 35-year-old male passenger.
The pickup truck erupted in flames following the collision. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, extracting the driver and providing emergency medical aid to the victims.
Victims and Recovery
The pedestrian died at the scene. The two occupants of the SUV were transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries, but police confirm both have since recovered and been released from hospital care. The pickup truck driver was also hospitalized with serious injuries.
