Calgary police have laid serious charges against a 26-year-old driver in connection with a catastrophic traffic collision in northeast Calgary that claimed the life of a pedestrian and left three others with significant injuries.
The collision occurred in the early morning hours of July 21, 2025, near 52 Street NE and Temple Road. Emergency responders arrived to find two severely damaged vehicles and a pedestrian who had been struck during the incident.
What Happened
Investigators determined a blue Ford F-150 pickup truck was travelling the wrong way down 52 Street NE when it struck a woman in her 50s as she crossed the roadway. The truck continued its trajectory and collided with a Jeep before coming to rest and catching fire.
A nearby resident, Ed Koelle, witnessed the horrific aftermath and rushed to assist.
"I went to check on the guy. He was still inside his vehicle," Koelle told Global News at the time. "There was a fire that already erupted on top, and I was trying to get him to come out and I gave him a little bit of a hand, but he was bleeding all over the place."
Fatal Outcome
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Two occupants of the Jeep were transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Ford pickup also sustained serious injuries from the collision.
Charges and Court Date
On August 11, 2026—more than a year after the crash—Calgary police charged the 26-year-old driver with one count of criminal dangerous driving causing death and two counts of criminal dangerous driving causing bodily harm. The driver is scheduled to make a court appearance on August 28.
