Calgary telecommunications company WestNet Wireless has launched an innovative web-based prayer platform that allows users to share spiritual requests and connect with faith communities without requiring app downloads or complicated installations.
The new service, accessible through any web browser at participating faith-based organizations, represents a departure from typical app-heavy approaches to digital spiritual community building. Users can simply visit the platform through their existing internet connection to share prayer requests, offer spiritual support to others, and connect with local congregations across Alberta.
"We recognized that many people in our faith communities, particularly seniors and those less comfortable with technology, were being left behind by app-based platforms," said WestNet Wireless spokesperson Sarah Mitchell. "This browser-based approach removes those barriers while maintaining the privacy and reverence that spiritual communication requires."
The platform integrates with WestNet's existing internet infrastructure across Alberta, ensuring reliable connectivity for users in both urban and rural communities. Early adoption has been particularly strong among churches in smaller Alberta communities where smartphone penetration may be lower among older congregants.
Pastor David Hoffman of Calgary's Hillview Community Church, one of the first organizations to implement the platform, said the service has strengthened connections within his congregation. "We've seen members who rarely participated in digital communication suddenly engaging in meaningful spiritual dialogue," Hoffman noted. "The simplicity of just opening a web page has made all the difference."
The platform includes features for anonymous prayer requests, community prayer circles, and direct pastoral care connections. All communications are encrypted and stored on Canadian servers, addressing privacy concerns that have affected other faith-based digital platforms.
WestNet's initiative comes as faith communities continue adapting to digital engagement tools that gained prominence during the COVID-19 pandemic. Unlike social media-based alternatives, the prayer platform is specifically designed for spiritual communication and includes moderation tools appropriate for religious contexts.
