A man in his 20s has died following a devastating motorcycle collision in southwest Calgary early Sunday morning, leaving investigators searching for answers about what caused the single-vehicle crash.
Calgary Police Service responded to the scene in the 100 block of Wentworth Square S.W. in the West Springs community at approximately 6:03 a.m. on Sunday. Officers discovered a motorcycle that had struck a residential home after the rider lost control at a critical intersection.
What Happened at the Scene
According to CPS, the motorcycle was travelling northbound on Wentworth Square when it approached the intersection with West Coach Road S.W. The vehicle continued through the intersection and collided directly with the residence. The rider was pronounced deceased at the scene.
"It is believed a motorcycle, operated by a man in his 20s, was travelling northbound on Wentworth Square approaching the intersection of West Coach Road S.W. when it continued through the intersection and struck a residence," Calgary Police said in a statement.
Investigation Underway
Police have ruled out several common contributing factors. Speed, alcohol, and drugs are not believed to have played a role in the collision, and investigators found no evidence that another vehicle was involved in the incident.
