A Winnipeg man is facing serious federal charges related to alleged online hate speech and threats against Canada's political and religious leaders.
Jason Paul Rindall, 55, was arrested in February following an RCMP investigation into social media activity on platform X. He now faces Criminal Code charges of advocating genocide and wilful promotion of hatred, in addition to earlier charges of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.
The investigation began when the RCMP's national security enforcement section identified a user account allegedly posting death threats targeting Prime Minister Mark Carney and inciting hatred against Jewish and Muslim communities.
Timeline of Charges
Rindall was arrested on February 13, approximately one month after the investigation was launched. At that time, he was charged with three counts under the Criminal Code related to threats of death or bodily harm. Additional charges of advocating genocide and wilful promotion of hatred were laid on March 30.
The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in Winnipeg court on Friday.
The RCMP stated that because the investigation remains ongoing and the matter is before the courts, no further details will be released at this time.
